A fugitive inmate, who had escaped from the Boksburg Correctional Centre, was swiftly re-arrested after a coordinated effort by multiple law enforcement agencies. The 20-year sentence prisoner was tracked down in Johannesburgβs Moffat View area later in the afternoon. The escape sparked a wide-scale search, which culminated in the successful apprehension of the convict.
The breakthrough came after CPS Securityβs tactical team, in collaboration with the Johannesburg Correctional Services Emergency Support Team (EST), received reliable intel on the inmateβs location. Working alongside the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) and SAPS, the joint operation led to the inmateβs capture. According to CPS Security Director Tyrone van der Merwe, their team quickly responded to the information, leading them to the fugitiveβs hideout.
Following the arrest, the inmate was transported to C-Max Prison, where he will continue serving his sentence. In addition to the original 20 years for robbery, theft, and firearms-related charges, he will now face extra time for his escape. Authorities expressed their gratitude for the collective efforts of all law enforcement involved in bringing the fugitive back behind bars.
