Controversial celebrity blogger Musa Khawula has been denied bail by the Fochville District Court, with Magistrate Bester citing the influencer’s repeated disregard for the justice system and ongoing pattern of legal defiance.
Khawula, who has made headlines for his explosive and often defamatory posts about public figures, is now facing a growing list of criminal charges, including attempted murder, cybercrimes, hate speech, and reckless driving.
A Dangerous Pattern of Behavior
The court found Khawula to be a high flight risk, noting his history of:
- Skipping court appearances
- Violating previous bail conditions
- Ignoring communication with legal counsel
The most serious charge dates back to a 2021 hit-and-run near the Mponeng Mine, where Khawula allegedly struck a man with his car and fled the scene. He is also charged with failing to report the accident.
Cybercrime and Online Attacks
Adding to his legal woes are cyber-related charges stemming from October 2024, when Khawula allegedly posted defamatory and hateful content targeting businessman Ze Nxumalo. These charges include crimen injuria, hate speech, and breaches of the Cybercrimes Act.
Murder Case Still Looms
The court also considered Khawula’s pending 2022 murder trial in Cape Town, along with a prior warrant for reckless driving, as aggravating factors. These, combined with his dismissive courtroom behavior — including blowing kisses at cameras — painted a picture of someone who, in the magistrate’s words, shows a “complete lack of seriousness toward legal proceedings.”
What’s Next?
Khawula will remain in custody until his next appearance on May 7 in Randburg, where a separate matter is being heard. The Fochville trial is set to begin on May 22.
As the walls close in, this once-celebrated gossip blogger is now the center of a very real — and very serious — legal saga.
