Reverend Kenneth Meshoe, leader of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), is grieving the loss of his daughter, Olga Meshoe-Washington, who passed away in the United States after battling lupus. Olga, who had been living in America with her husband, Joshua David Washington, was hospitalized before her untimely death. The family has been left devastated, as Olga’s passing follows the loss of her mother, Dr. Lydia Meshoe, just one year earlier.
Olga, who married Joshua almost eight years ago, had celebrated her seventh wedding anniversary with him just last month. In a heartfelt tribute on social media, Joshua shared the painful details of her final moments. “My wife passed away this morning at 3:30am with her hand in mine,” he wrote. “She had been diagnosed with lupus a few weeks ago and was hospitalized after passing out at Newark airport on December 26.” Joshua continued, expressing his gratitude that his brother-in-law was with Olga during that critical moment, potentially saving her life at the time.
Despite receiving medical care, including a minor surgery she was scheduled for, Olga’s health declined, and she passed away just hours before the scheduled procedure. Joshua described the final moments spent with her, saying, “I slept in the hospital room with her and was able to speak to and sing to her just about 30 minutes before she passed.” His words highlighted the deep love and devotion he felt for his wife, who had always spoken of the day she would be welcomed into Heaven with applause.
Olga’s death marks a heartbreaking chapter for the Meshoe family, especially after losing Dr. Lydia Meshoe in January 2023. Dr. Lydia Meshoe, who was the president of ACDP’s Women of Destiny, had been married to Reverend Kenneth Meshoe for 46 years. The family is now mourning the loss of two beloved women in quick succession, and tributes from friends, family, and supporters have flooded in for the Meshoe-Washington family.
Joshua Washington asked for prayers, not just for his family, but also for the Meshoe family during this challenging time. “Please keep the Washington and Meshoe family in your prayers,” he wrote. The couple leaves behind two young sons, Ezra, who turned six in December, and three-year-old Judah, who now face the profound loss of their mother.
