A New Year’s Eve outing ended in tragedy for 22-year-old Sinesipho Ncwadi, whose life was cut short after a celebration at the beach with family and friends. On December 31, 2024, Sinesipho, along with her cousins and friends from Du Noon, Cape Town, gathered at the beach to welcome the new year. Little did they know, the early hours of January 1, 2025, would bring unimaginable sorrow.
Around 2 AM, as the group prepared to head home, they discovered that their hired car had been driven away, leaving them stranded. Sinesipho became upset and distressed about how they would get home, but her cousin Mandisa reassured her that she would arrange for an Uber. As they discussed their options, a taxi stopped by with a driver and five women inside, offering to take Sinesipho to Du Noon. Despite some initial hesitation, Mandisa allowed her cousin to go with them, not knowing this would be the last time she would see Sinesipho alive.
The taxi is believed to have dropped Sinesipho at a bus stop near her home. Afterward, it is thought that she continued her journey on foot, but what happened next remains unclear. Sinesipho’s body was later found in a shack near the bus stop. The family was alerted to the discovery through a Facebook post, and Mandisa, worried about not being able to contact her cousin, went to the scene. She identified Sinesipho’s belongings at the site.
The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sinesipho’s death. Western Cape police spokesperson Captain Frederick Van Wyk confirmed that a case of death is under investigation at Milnerton Police Station.
