A suspect, Ishmael Mokone, has been charged in connection with the deaths of two brothers, Solomon (40) and Marumo (38) Seroke, in Madidi, North West, on 28 December 2024. Mokone, who made his second court appearance on 8 January 2025 under heavy police guard, is accused of involvement in a dispute that led to the brothers’ tragic deaths. He is due to appear again in court on 30 January 2025.

Solomon, a businessman, and Marumo, who worked at a mine in Rustenburg, were both deeply mourned by their families and community. The brothers were laid to rest in a joint funeral on 4 January 2025. Solomon leaves behind a wife and three children, while Marumo is survived by his wife and three children. Neighbors say the incident began with an argument between Mokone and Solomon’s brother-in-law, which later escalated when the Seroke brothers tried to intervene.

A neighbor who knew Mokone described him as someone who had struggled with substance abuse in the past. “He was a quiet person when we were growing up, and we never imagined he would go down this path,” the neighbor shared. Mokone had previously been involved in minor incidents in the community, which raised concern among locals.

The police apprehended Mokone the morning after the incident, following a brief standoff. He was taken to the hospital due to an injury sustained during the arrest. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with the cause of the brothers’ deaths still being determined. Police are working to understand the full details of the situation, and the family of the Seroke brothers continues to grieve their loss.
