The children of former Isidingo actress Michelle Botes have shared their heartfelt reflections on her final days, following her tragic passing in December 2024 after a battle with cancer. Botes, beloved for her iconic role as the villainous Cherel de Villiers in Isidingo, was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer in July 2022, which led to her rapid health decline. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, steroids, and a stem cell transplant, she lost her battle with the illness, which deteriorates bone marrow.

In an exclusive interview with You Magazine, Michelle’s children, Cara and Daniel, opened up about the difficult moments leading up to her death. Daniel shared how he moved to Cape Town in 2022 to be by his mother’s side after her diagnosis. He described how he slept on the floor next to her, wanting to be as close as possible during her last months.

Daniel recounted the heartbreaking moment on 21 December 2024 when he realized they were losing her. He explained how his mother drifted in and out of consciousness, prompting him to call Cara, who was in London at the time, to let her know their mother’s condition had worsened.

Entertainment commentator Jabu Mcdonald shared a poignant image of Botes alongside fellow actress Connie Chiume, who also passed away in 2024, from their appearance together in Netflix’s popular film, Jewel.
