The long-awaited date for Mohloki Ramohloaki’s bail application has been set. The 74-year-old, affectionately known as “Madala,” is due to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January 8, after his previous court appearance was postponed on January 2 for further investigation into his proposed alternative address for bail.

Ramohloaki, a resident of Palm Ridge in Ekurhuleni, was arrested on December 13 for allegedly violating a protection order. He has been in police custody since that time, facing serious charges of assault and breaching the protection order issued by his wife, Anna Ramohloaki (71).

The couple, married for 40 years, has faced escalating tensions in recent times. According to Anna, Madala moved out of their marital home to live with his new partner. However, his actions appear to have continued to disrupt their home, as he allegedly returned multiple times to remove furniture and, in a particularly troubling claim, disconnected the electricity supply to the house. This left Anna relying on paraffin lamps and candles for light, and at times, struggling without running water.

In the face of these distressing allegations, Anna reported the matter to Eden Park Police, leading to Madala’s arrest. His case has sparked local outrage, with many residents voicing their dismay over the situation, particularly given Madala’s age. Some, like 68-year-old Albertina Skhosana, are calling for the court to deny bail, citing the emotional and physical toll that his actions have taken on his long-suffering wife.

Speaking to reporters outside the court, Skhosana expressed her disapproval, stating, β€œIt’s a disgrace to see someone of his age involved in this kind of drama. His wife has suffered enough, both emotionally and physically, because of his extramarital affair. If he wants to pursue a polygamous relationship, he must do the right thing and address it with his wife. This has caused enough problems for them.”

Skhosana also spoke out in support of Anna, emphasizing the distress caused by the ongoing domestic strife. β€œAt her age, Anna should not be facing such abuse,” Skhosana continued. β€œWe, as the community, stand by her. We will support her throughout this legal process.”

As the case progresses, it remains to be seen whether Madala will be granted bail. The matter has captured the attention of locals, many of whom hope the court will consider the full extent of the alleged abuse when making their decision.
