Sergeant Kolobe Amia Kwenaite of the Thembisa Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit is making significant strides in the protection of children and the pursuit of justice in the Ekurhuleni District. Known for her dedication to ensuring the safety of vulnerable children, she has earned praise for her exceptional work in securing convictions for those who harm children.
In December 2023, Kwenaite played a pivotal role in securing a life sentence for a 40-year-old man who had caused harm to a young child in Olifantsfontein. The crime occurred when the child, walking home from a neighbor’s house, was subjected to distressing behavior. Kwenaite’s thorough work led to a conviction that ensured the offender would face the full consequences of his actions.
Additionally, Kwenaite helped secure another life sentence for 58-year-old Buti Janji Mthembu, who was convicted of inappropriate behavior towards a five-year-old girl in Ivory Park in 2019. The incident unfolded when the young girl was woken by sounds outside her home and learned of the distressing event involving her younger sister. A community member, who witnessed the situation, quickly alerted others, and a case was opened at the Ivory Park Police Station.
Kwenaite’s careful gathering of evidence and her unwavering commitment to justice ensured that Mthembu was convicted and received a life sentence on October 24, 2024, from the Thembisa Magistrate Court.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole expressed her appreciation for Kwenaite’s dedication, acknowledging her significant role in the ongoing effort to protect children and create safer communities. “Sergeant Kwenaite’s work is a testament to the dedication and professionalism we uphold in the SAPS. Her commitment ensures that justice is served for those who need it most,” said Major General Sithole.
Through her efforts, Sergeant Kwenaite continues to exemplify the values of the South African Police Service, working diligently to protect children and uphold the law in her community.
