A pastor from Khayelitsha has been arrested following serious allegations of sexually exploiting congregants under the pretense of offering spiritual healing. According to police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the incidents reportedly took place at the pastor’s church between November 2022 and January 2025. It is alleged that the pastor convinced vulnerable individuals seeking healing to remain at the church, where he manipulated them into engaging in sexual acts, claiming it was part of their path to recovery.
Authorities became involved after two victims courageously came forward and shared their experiences with the local community. This revelation prompted a community meeting, during which additional victims stepped forward with similar claims. Sergeant Twigg confirmed that three victims, aged 15, 22, and 23, are now safe and receiving professional counselling to support their recovery.
The suspect was apprehended shortly after the community reported the incidents to the police. He appeared before the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Friday, where he was remanded in custody pending further investigation. His next court appearance is scheduled for tomorrow, where more details may emerge as the case unfolds.
The incident has left the local community in shock, with many expressing their disbelief and disappointment over the abuse of trust within a sacred space. Police have urged any additional victims or witnesses to come forward, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring justice for those affected.
