EFF Students Oppose ‘Progressive Caucus’ with MKP Over Policy Differences
Tensions are rising within the South African political landscape as EFF student leaders strongly oppose the formation of a “progressive caucus” that includes the MK Party (MKP). The caucus aims to unite opposition forces, but EFF students have expressed concern that MKP does not share the same political principles as the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), making any collaboration problematic.
The conflict gained traction after former EFF MP Fana Mokoena publicly endorsed the idea of uniting various opposition parties, including the MKP, under one banner. Mokoena argued that opposition unity was crucial for South Africa’s political future. However, some in the EFF, including senior members like Anthony Matumba, have voiced alarm, warning that MKP’s real intentions are to undermine the EFF rather than form a unified opposition. Matumba accused Mokoena and other former EFF members now aligned with the MKP, like Floyd Shivambu, of working to infiltrate and destabilize the party from within​​
