Local DJ and activist, Victor Mokonyane, has taken a bold stance against corruption in Mokopane, Limpopo, using his On the Move Foundation as a platform to voice the frustrations of residents. Through this initiative, Mokonyane is demanding action from Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, urging her to address the rampant issues of corruption, unemployment, and maladministration that have long plagued the Mogalakwena Municipality.
Mokonyane expressed disappointment over what he perceives as the provincial government’s indifference to the ongoing problems in the region. He has issued a firm ultimatum to Premier Ramathuba, declaring that if she does not visit Mokopane within seven days, the community will mobilize, sending 20 buses to her office to demand urgent action. According to Mokonyane, a personal visit from the Premier would allow for direct engagement with residents, facilitating a clearer understanding of the challenges they face and fostering a commitment to transparency and accountability.
“This is about restoring hope in a community that has been ignored for far too long,” Mokonyane said. “We need to hear from Dr. Ramathuba about her stance on the corruption that is suffocating our people.”
The DJ emphasized the importance of the Premier addressing these issues head-on to provide clarity and reassurance to the people of Mokopane. He believes that Ramathuba’s presence would not only strengthen the foundation’s cause but also signal a shift toward more accountable governance in the province.
While the provincial government has not yet responded to Mokonyane’s letter, spokesperson Ndavhe Ramakuela confirmed that no formal communication had been received from the activist, preventing them from offering an official comment on the matter. However, the community remains steadfast in its call for action, awaiting a response from the Premier.
