KwaZulu-Natal police recently uncovered two warehouses in the Bluff area, south of Durban, used to store expired food products. The operation revealed a variety of expired items, including canned fish, baby food, fizzy drinks, beans, and spices, all stored alongside hazardous chemicals such as pesticides. In addition to these findings, police also discovered counterfeit prescription medication, body lotions, and expired alcoholic beverages. The police also uncovered two more warehouses containing counterfeit clothing items from major brands, worth millions of Rands. Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the sale of the expired food, which is reportedly distributed to township and village spaza shops, as well as the importers of the fake clothing products.
In Limpopo, two foreign nationals were arrested for possessing illegal explosives valued at R2 million. The two men, aged 35 and 37, were stopped during a routine check by the Vhembe Flying Squad along the N1 south near Makhado. During the stop, police discovered four bags containing commercial explosives in the vehicle’s boot. The explosives unit confirmed the substances as highly dangerous. Both suspects were taken into custody, and their car was seized as part of the ongoing investigation. Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the officers for their swift action, noting that the explosives could have been used in violent criminal activities. The suspects are expected to appear in the Makhado Magistrate’s Court on charges of illegal possession of explosives.
Meanwhile, in Mpumalanga, a 34-year-old female doctor was tragically shot and killed outside a gym in Nelspruit early yesterday morning. The police and paramedics responded to a distress call and found the victim outside her car, where she was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that she was shot by two suspects, who remain at large. Authorities have not yet determined the motive for the killing. The police are urging anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to contact the Nelspruit detective branch or the Crime Stop hotline. Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, condemned the senseless act and reassured the public that a dedicated team is working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice.
