Benefits of the Self-Service Meter Management System

The self-service water meter management system offers several advantages to both residents and the city:

  • Enhanced billing accuracy: By submitting actual readings, residents help eliminate discrepancies often caused by estimated readings.
  • Modernised processes: The system ensures accurate data entry, reducing errors and minimizing the potential for duplicated information.
  • Verification tools: Uploaded images of meter readings provide proof of the submitted data, boosting the credibility and transparency of the process.
  • Improved location tracking: The system uses GPS coordinates to link the meter to the correct account, ensuring that billing is accurate and aligned with the correct location.
  • Streamlined service delivery: The digital platform improves consistency across customer care centres, enhancing overall service efficiency.

Alternative Options for Residents Without Smartphones

For residents without smartphones, the City of Ekurhuleni offers alternative methods for submitting meter readings:

  • Visit a local customer care centre: Residents can visit a customer care centre in person to submit their water meter readings.
  • Allow a city-authorised meter reader: Alternatively, residents can arrange for a city-authorised meter reader to access the property and record the readings on their behalf.

Additional Tips for Managing Water Bills

To help manage water consumption and avoid inflated bills, residents are encouraged to:

  • Regularly check for internal water leaks on their properties, as even small leaks can result in significant water loss and higher bills.

For assistance with the self-service meter management system, residents can contact the Siyakhokha call centre at 011 999 5102 or email [email protected]. Support is available Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 13:00.
