Fans of the hit SABC drama Skeem Saam are in for a treat this Friday evening, as Obed Kgomo and Melita Monama finally take the plunge and tie the knot in what promises to be one of the most memorable events of the year.

Obed, portrayed by Legogang Elephant, and Melita, played by Hellen Bright, have captured the hearts of viewers with their rollercoaster relationship. Now, the much-anticipated wedding will unfold in a special episode that promises drama, emotion, and plenty of surprises.

As the show’s producers hype up the event, Skeem Saam shared on social media: “It’s wedding night on #SkeemSaam! Obed and Melita are ready to tie the knot, and you won’t want to miss a single moment!” Fans are eagerly awaiting to see how the couple’s journey culminates as they walk down the aisle – though, as always with Skeem Saam, there are sure to be some twists and turns before the final vows are exchanged.

While Melita’s on-screen character has garnered her a dedicated following, it has also sparked some passionate reactions from fans, with one particularly shocking incident making headlines in 2023. Actress Hellen Bright shared a startling story of being attacked by a woman while out shopping. The elderly woman, in her 60s, hit Bright in the heel with a trolley, accusing her of “stealing other women’s husbands.”

“She hit me in the heel with a trolley. When I looked at her, she said, ‘I did it purposely because you are stealing other women’s husbands. I swear if you do that to my husband, I will deal with you,’” Bright recounted in an interview with The Sowetan.

It was only then that Bright realized the woman had mistaken her for her Skeem Saam character, Melita.

In another unsettling encounter, a fan who asked for a picture with the actress told her, “Don’t steal my husband.” Although the comment was a shock to Bright, she understood that viewers were so immersed in the drama that they blurred the lines between reality and fiction.

“My heart just sank because I noticed that she was seeing my TV character,” Bright explained. Despite the occasional unsettling fan interaction, the actress noted that the majority of Skeem Saam fans have embraced her portrayal of Melita. Some even ask her to recite famous lines from the show, like “captain my captain” or “serope mperekele,” a cheeky phrase Melita uses to seduce men.

Whether it’s the excitement surrounding the wedding or the intriguing drama off-screen, one thing is certain: the wedding of Obed and Melita is set to be a landmark moment in Skeem Saam’s long-running success. Fans won’t want to miss this eagerly awaited event – and who knows what twists and turns might happen before the big “I do.”

Tune in this Friday evening to witness the wedding of the year, only on Skeem Saam!
