Veteran actor Sello Maake kaNcube has reached a breaking point in his tumultuous relationship with his wife, Pearl Mbewe, and has now decided to take legal action against her. The actor, best known for his role in The Suit, is responding to fresh allegations made by Mbewe, who reportedly claimed that her husband assaulted her and gave her a chronic disease.
Maake kaNcube, who has had an on-and-off relationship with Mbewe over the past few months, vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that they are part of a coordinated effort to tarnish his reputation. The situation escalated when Mbewe allegedly opened an assault case against him, leading the actor to nearly spend a weekend in jail. However, when he went to the police station for questioning, Maake kaNcube filed a countercharge against his wife.
In a statement to ZiMoja, the actor firmly denied the claims and said, “I firmly deny the allegations. It appears that this is a coordinated effort to create unfounded claims against me.” He went on to add, “I will not stoop low and engage in this mud-slinging. I am consulting with my legal team regarding these matters.”
The allegations come amid a backdrop of an increasingly strained relationship between the couple. ZiMoja reported in June that Maake kaNcube had expressed feeling trapped in his marriage to Mbewe. Sources also revealed a physical altercation that took place between the couple at the Grahamstown Arts Festival in the Eastern Cape. Following that incident, Maake kaNcube reportedly left Mbewe in Grahamstown, and she drove back to their marital home in Soweto with friends.
Despite the allegations and the dramatic turn of events, Maake kaNcube was not arrested after filing a countercharge against Mbewe, and it remains to be seen how the legal matters will unfold.
