King Misuzulu, the 50-year-old monarch of the Zulu nation, is set to marry Queen Nomzamo “Masesi” Myeni (42) in a traditional Shembe Church ceremony on Sunday, 26 January 2025, at the KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal. This comes as a surprise to many, especially as the king is in the midst of a divorce with one of his three wives. Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, King Misuzulu has confirmed his commitment to his new marriage.

In May 2024, King Misuzulu paid lobola for Queen Nomzamo, and the upcoming wedding marks the culmination of their relationship. Prince Simphiwe Zulu, the king’s spokesperson, confirmed that the king will also conduct the traditional engagement ceremony, umkhehlo, at Queen Nomzamo’s home on 24 January. The wedding itself will be a grand affair, with all amaZulu people invited to celebrate the union.

The announcement of the wedding comes amid a court battle between King Misuzulu and one of his wives in the Pietermaritzburg High Court. According to court documents, the king is offering R20,000 monthly maintenance for a year as part of the divorce settlement. This adds a layer of complexity to the royal family’s personal affairs, but the king’s commitment to his new bride remains firm.

In addition to his wedding plans, King Misuzulu is preparing for the Umkhosi Wokweshwama (First Fruits Festival), which will take place at Emashobeni Royal Palace. This cultural event will see young amabutho arriving at the palace on 11 January to prepare for the festival, culminating in the slaughtering of a bull on 14 January. The king will also host the Battle of Isandlwana commemoration on 22 January at the historic Isandlwana battlefield in Nquthu, further marking an important period for the royal family.
