Kelly Khumalo, the renowned singer and newly initiated traditional healer, has weighed in on the growing tension between two prominent celebrity sangomas, Gogo Maweni and Gogo Skhotheni. Both women, who have gained significant attention for their spiritual practices, have found themselves embroiled in a public feud that has sparked intense media coverage. Khumalo, who recently embarked on her own journey into traditional healing, shared her thoughts on the matter, addressing the controversy without casting judgment, but instead calling for respect and dignity in the sacred space they all occupy.

The conflict between Makgotso “Gogo Maweni” Mokopo and Patricia “Gogo Skhotheni” Motsoeneng began when Skhotheni made accusations against Maweni, claiming that the latter wore fake Gucci clothing and did not own the cars she publicly displayed. In response, Maweni retaliated, alleging that Skhotheni had fabricated her ownership of a newly launched club, Cavo. The situation escalated further when Maweni and her associates accused Skhotheni of having asked her estranged husband, Monde, to engage in a romantic relationship with businessman Dominic Zaca, making insinuations about Monde’s sexuality.

Amidst this heated exchange, Khumalo took to social media to offer her perspective on the matter, urging the two sangomas to reconsider their public quarrel. She stressed the importance of respecting the sanctity of their roles as spiritual leaders, emphasizing the need to protect the sacredness of their practices. Khumalo cautioned both women to be mindful of their actions and the potential harm they could cause to their reputations and the dignity of their spiritual callings.

In a heartfelt video, Khumalo reminded the two sangomas of the significance of Isigodlo, the sacred space where spiritual consultations and rituals take place. She urged them to honor this space, saying, “Respect the secrets of Isigodlo. Respect the secrets of ancestors. Respect the secrets of Amakhosi. There are things that people shouldn’t know that we do in our sacred spaces.” Khumalo’s words were a call for them to reflect on the deeper meaning of their spiritual journeys and to uphold the dignity of their practices, which are rooted in centuries-old traditions.

The singer, who has experienced her own share of public scrutiny, advised Maweni and Skhotheni to avoid actions that could diminish the respect they command as spiritual leaders. β€œMy sisters, this thing isn’t cool. It takes down your dignity of the gift of healing bestowed upon you,” she said, adding that there are certain matters that should remain private. β€œAt some point, you will see people in compromising situations, something that needs to be hidden at all costs.” Her message was clear: while it is important to promote and celebrate their spiritual gifts, it is equally crucial to protect the integrity and sanctity of those gifts.

Khumalo’s words resonate beyond the immediate drama, calling for a greater sense of unity and respect among those who hold spiritual power. As the public feud between Maweni and Skhotheni continues to play out, her message serves as a reminder of the responsibility that comes with being a traditional healer and the impact of personal conflicts on the broader community. While both sangomas may have their own grievances, Khumalo’s perspective invites them to look inward and consider the greater good of their spiritual practices and the example they set for others.
