After captivating audiences on their recent tour across Dubai and the USA, Clermont Choir and maskandi sensation Khuzani Mpungose are gearing up to deliver an unforgettable performance in Durban. The duo, which returned to South Africa in September, is set to host a highly anticipated homecoming festival at the ICC Arena in Durban on Friday, 6 December 2024.
The announcement, made on 18 November, promises an electrifying event that will showcase the best of both their overseas performances and a unique blend of Mzansi’s musical talent. The festival will feature appearances from top artists including Big Zulu, Jumbo, and DJ Tira, creating a vibrant lineup for fans to enjoy. This festival marks the beginning of an annual event, ensuring that the energy from their global tour will continue to inspire and entertain Mzansi audiences for years to come.
Wizeman Mkhize, the leader of the Clermont Choir, expressed the excitement surrounding the event. “We can’t wait to bring the spirit of our Dubai and USA performances to Mzansi,” Mkhize said. “We’re proud of our success in Dubai, where we performed for the vibrant South African community of 200,000, and we’re hoping that this will inspire other South African artists to take their music abroad to places like Dubai, the USA, and beyond.”
In 2024, Clermont Choir celebrates 30 years of rich musical history, coinciding with Mzansi’s 30 years of democracy. Their recent tour, which took place from 17 to 29 September, was a groundbreaking collaboration of choral and maskandi music, highlighted by their new single, Ubhontshisi. Despite some critics questioning the fusion of genres, Mkhize stands by their versatility, stating, “We’re a dynamic choir and can work with any artist, exploring different styles without losing our identity.”
Khuzani Mpungose, fresh off the success of his album Angidlali Nezingane, is also thrilled to be part of the festival. “We will be performing Ubhontshisi, and for those who are curious about its meaning, you’ll have to join us on the day,” he said. “Alongside that, I’m excited to share some of the new songs from my latest album.”
The homecoming festival promises to be a celebration of South African talent, showcasing the beauty of collaboration, creativity, and music that transcends borders. It’s an event not to be missed!
