Renowned radio personality and entrepreneur, Sibusiso Leope (DJ Sbu), has sparked fresh conversations after a video surfaced showing him returning to the same street vendor he had previously ridiculed for not selling his MoFaya energy drink. The video, which gained widespread attention on social media last week, showed DJ Sbu mocking the vendor for not having MoFaya in stock, offering him R200 and then driving off, stating that the vendor was “losing R200” and questioning his hustle.
Following the backlash, DJ Sbu took to X (formerly Twitter) to apologise, stating that he never intended to offend and that he was in the process of empowering the vendor. In a surprising turn of events, DJ Sbu returned to the vendor’s location shortly after the incident and offered him packs of MoFaya energy drinks to sell.
In a new video shared online, DJ Sbu is seen handing over multiple boxes of MoFaya to the street vendor, who expressed gratitude for the support. “You didn’t have MoFaya before, but now you do. Let’s see you sell these and grow your hustle,” DJ Sbu says in the clip.
The street vendor, visibly surprised but thankful, accepted the packs, with DJ Sbu encouraging him to keep pushing forward in his business. “This is about making sure everyone has an opportunity to make something of themselves, regardless of what they’re selling,” DJ Sbu added.
The gesture has received mixed reactions. Some social media users have praised DJ Sbu for taking responsibility and turning the situation around. @Nathi123 commented, “Big respect to DJ Sbu for going back and helping the vendor. He turned his mistake into something positive.” Another user, @TheRealJabuM, wrote, “I appreciate the fact that DJ Sbu did something tangible instead of just apologizing. Empowering others is what it’s all about.”
Others, however, have remained skeptical, questioning whether the action was enough to undo the harm caused by his initial behavior. @TaMongs92, who had previously criticized the video, commented, “While giving him MoFaya is great, it still doesn’t take away the fact that he mocked the man first. It’s a learning moment, but we need more than just PR stunts.”
