Cassper Nyovest has shared a heartfelt tribute to his late friend and fellow musician, DJ Sumbody, marking the second anniversary of his tragic passing.
DJ Sumbody, whose real name was Oupa Sefoka, was shot and killed on November 20, 2022, while returning from a gig in Woodmead, Johannesburg. His death sent shockwaves through the South African music industry, and his memory continues to live on through his music and the legacy he left behind.
Taking to social media, Cassper reflected on the moments he shared with DJ Sumbody, remembering the playful banter and the special bond they had. “I imagine him saying to me, ‘Mfanaka, e re keo botse, we tshwere stele!! Ha re bule kereke, wena o no rera, nna ke tseye ya Koleke,’” Cassper joked, recalling how his late friend would have teased him about his recent spiritual journey.
In addition to his tribute, Cassper also honored DJ Sumbody’s memory through his music. DJ Sumbody’s foundation recently released a track he recorded just days before his untimely death. Titled Sumbody Nice, the song features artists Murumba Pitch and Junior Taurus, and has quickly become a way for fans to remember the late DJ’s contribution to the industry.
Speaking, Junior Taurus, who collaborated with DJ Sumbody on the track, revealed the emotional significance of the release. “It was recorded just a day before he passed away. Listening to the song now brings so much emotion—it was the last song he recorded,” he said. Taurus expressed hope that the song would not only serve as a tribute but also keep DJ Sumbody’s memory alive.
“Even though he’s no longer here with us, music is something that can carry his spirit through time. We wanted to remember him in the best way possible,” Taurus added.
As fans continue to mourn DJ Sumbody’s untimely passing, the release of Sumbody Nice offers a powerful reminder of the impact he had on both his peers and his fans. Through his music, his spirit lives on, and his memory remains a source of inspiration to all who loved him.
