Talented Amapiano vocalist Sir Trill speaks out about gatekeeping in the music industry, and says he has never received a penny from the music he released. In a sit down on the ‘L-Tido Podcast,’ the ‘Yini Sdakwa’ hitmaker alluded to not ever having being paid from many of his hits that had SA dancing and clubs banging.
Known for his serenity and smooth melody, surprisingly, the ‘Nkantin’ hitmaker has been struggling to get his music out there, and has been met with severe financial difficulties to a point where he’d go to sleep with an empty stomach, and says he has never gotten compensated from the big records he has made or was featured on.
Amid the reports about Sir Trills’ unfortunate challenges and journey in the music industry, social media became abuzz with many accusing one half of the Scorpion Kings duo, none other than DJ Maphorisa. The masses believe Phori is responsible for Sir Trills’ downfall, as he’s been previously slated as a predator and gatekeeper. One person who coincides with the accusations made over Maphorisa is controversial DJ and music producer Prince Kaybe, who once blatantly said Phori is unfair and takes advantage of young artists.
In the interview with ‘L-Tido,’ Trill also mentions how he held releasing his much anticipated album back in 2022/23 to let Young Stunna get a foot in the music industry. Trill says he even sent Stunna a DM, letting him know that he’s a good musician, and the star further mentioned how fatigued he was, because everything was on his shoulders, so he had to let Young Stunna get a run.
Speaking in a sad pitch, the Amapiano hitmaker mentioned how in his prime and out of his good-heart has helped a lot of artists, but many never reciprocated when he dropped his album. One person he mentions is DJ Stokie, stating that he doesn’t have a problem with him, but he learned not to ‘expect people to do’ unto him what he ‘did for them.’
We can only hope Sir Trill bounces back and continues to make beautiful music, he’s album ‘Ghost’ is out on all streaming platforms.
