Johannesburg, South Africa β Renowned media personality and entrepreneur DJ Sbu is facing possible legal action after allegedly recording and broadcasting a private phone conversation without consent on his popular podcast, The Hustlers Corner SA.
The woman at the center of the controversy β who has also made separate assault allegations against traditional healer Dr Khehlelezi β claims she was unaware the call was being recorded and only discovered it had been published after receiving concerned messages from listeners.
According to her, she had to spend R5,000 in legal fees to get the podcast episode taken down and is now preparing to sue DJ Sbu, accusing him of βexploiting the situation for likes and money.β
βThis wasnβt an interview. I didnβt agree to be recorded, and I definitely didnβt give permission for the public to hear my voice. I feel used,β she reportedly stated.
The case highlights growing concerns around media ethics and digital consent, especially as podcasting and influencer platforms blur traditional broadcasting boundaries.
Legal experts suggest DJ Sbu could face serious consequences under South Africaβs interception and privacy laws, which generally require the consent of all parties for a conversation to be recorded and shared.
DJ Sbu has yet to release an official statement regarding the allegations.
