Orlando Pirates are continuing their pursuit of a historic quadruple after securing a Nedbank Cup victory over Marumo Gallants last weekend. However, they will soon face life without head coach Jose Riveiro, who confirmed he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. This marks the end of his successful three-year tenure in Soweto.

Riveiro’s departure could signal more changes at the club, as several prominent players are also linked with moves abroad.

European Interest in Pirates Stars
Relebohile Mofokeng, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Monnapule Saleng are all reportedly attracting foreign suitors. Saleng, who has not been included in a matchday squad since December 7 due to salary disputes, has returned to training but continues to be left out, fueling speculation about his potential offseason departure.

Meanwhile, Mofokeng has garnered interest from clubs in Egypt and beyond, with Zamalek previously having a bid of R25.8 million for him rejected earlier this year.

Mabasa and Maswanganyi are also gaining European attention. Reports suggest that Championship club Sunderland is monitoring Mabasa, while Maswanganyi’s former club, U.D. Oliveirense, is reportedly keeping tabs on the midfielder’s progress.

Mabasa’s potential move to Sunderland has been confirmed, with scouts from the English club also reportedly impressed by fellow Pirates player Thalente Mbatha. This dual interest could see both players heading abroad in the near future.
